Cebaf at Higher Energies Working Group Report on Hadron Spectroscopy and Production

نویسنده

  • Ted Barnes
چکیده

This report summarizes topics in hadron spectroscopy and production which could be addressed at CEBAF with an energy upgrade to Eγ = 8 GeV and beyond. The topics discussed include conventional meson and baryon spectroscopy, spectroscopy of exotica (especially molecules and hybrids), CP and CPT tests using φ mesons, and new detector and accelerator options.

Physics Goals of Aµ + Μ

This working group report focuses on the physics potential of µ + µ − colliders beyond what can be accomplished at linear e + e − colliders and the LHC. Particularly interesting possibilities include (i) s-channel resonance production to discover and study heavy Higgs bosons with ZZ and W W couplings that are suppressed or absent at tree-level (such as the H and A Higgs bosons of supersymmetric...

Hadron Physics at BaBar

The BABAR experiment at SLAC is designed to measure CP violation in the B meson system, however the very high statistics combined with the different e+ and e− beam energies, the detector design and the open trigger allow a wide variety of spectroscopic measurements. We are beginning to tap this potential via several production mechanisms. Here we present recent results from initial state radiat...

The Compass Experiment and the Measurement of the Gluon Polarisation

COMPASS, a new fixed target experiment at CERN, aimed at the study of nucleon spin structure and hadron spectroscopy, has started to collect physics data in Autumn 2001. This paper describes the COMPASS apparatus and the measurement of the gluon polarisation ∆G/G. The apparatus consists in a solid state polarised target and a two stage spectrometer with high resolution tracking, particle identi...

Heavy Quarks will be abundantly produced in Heavy Ion Collisions at LHC energies. Both, the production of open heavy flavoured mesons and quarkonia will probe the strongly interacting medium created in these reactions. In particular, the ALICE detector will be able to measure heavy flavour production down to low transverse momentum, combining leptonic and hadronic channels, covering a large rap...

Summary of Working Group B: Diffraction and Vector Mesons

The understanding of diffractive lepton-hadron or hadron-hadron interactions at high energies, where at least one of the beam hadrons stays intact and loses only a small fraction of its incident momentum, still represents one of the main challenges in Quantum Chromodynamics. Diffraction is being extensively studied both at HERA and the TEVATRON, and there is a growing community planning to cont...
